Terry squares
Terry Squares are a very economical option as a washable nappy. They come in different sizes, you fold them - secure them on baby with a nappi nippa (no need for safety pins anymore!) and then put a waterproof wrap over the top. As well as being relatively cheap to buy, they are very, very quick to dry and they will last you for years. I have met many people who say they still have 40 year old Terry Squares that they keep for washing the car and the floor! They are also very handy to keep in your change bag if you need a quick sick cloth!
The disadvantages are that they do require folding and they can be a more fiddly to use. Because they are not shaped to fit like modern nappies you do have to make sure that every piece of nappy is tucked inside the wrap, otherwise wetness will wick out onto the clothing.
There are many cheap Terry Squares on the market - be warned these are not always the best option. The cheaper ones are really not very absorbent and go hard very quickly!
The Terry Squares that we sell at Green Mums are made from Organic Cotton and are gorgeously soft and absorbent.
