Night time nappies

Finding a nappy that will see your baby through the night is very easy during the first few months.  As they get older, at around 18 months or so, this can be more difficult.  Any nappy can struggle to hold a huge amount of urine for this long, this is the case for disposables and cloth nappies.

There is always a solution to this problem and if you persevere you can usually work with the nappy you already have and get it to last through the night.

Here are some suggestions: 

If you are using a pocket nappy, trying inserting more boosting into the pocket.  Be careful not to add too much though as this can have the opposite effect, making the nappy gape around the legs and waist.  If you are using microfibre boosters, try adding hemp or bamboo boosters as these will hold more wee.  Hemp and bamboo are slower to absorb than microfibre so always add them under the microfibre layer (so that the microfibre absorbs the wee first).
As a last resort you can try using a waterproof wrap over the pocket nappy, we've done this and it worked fine but make sure you dress your baby accordingly - with an extra waterproof layer on top of their normal nappy they may get quite warm on a hot night.

If you are using a two part nappy system, I would first look at the nappy that you are using.  They are not all suited to night time use so you may need to invest in a couple different ones specifically for night time.  Check out the ones we suggest in this category.

If you have added extra boosting to your nappy you may find that your waterproof wrap is no longer a sufficient size to hold this larger nappy in which case you may want to get one in a larger size to keep for night time.  The best wraps we have found for night time use are the Motherease airflow.  They allow plenty of room for boosting and are very reliable.
