CLOTH NAPPIES : Birth to potty (one size nappies)

This popular nappy from Motherease is a great birth to potty nappy. You can adjust the size and fit really easily using poppers. When your baby is small you simply fold down the front of the nappy to accommodate a smaller bottom.

These nappies are surprisingly absorbent for a nappy which is so trim fitting. You have the option of adding pop in boosters to these nappies (available seperately) which gives increased absorbency, you could also put in any other shaped booster.

Motherease nappies are designed to fit babies from 8lbs to 35lbs. They have elasticated waist and legs so give a really snug fit. We very rarely had any leaks when Lily wore these.

These can be tumble dried on medium and washed
from 40 to 70 degrees.

Wraps – Motherease Rikki or airflow wraps are designed for these nappies but pretty much any wrap will be fine. We think that Motherease are best for durability though.

The Motherease multifit is another great birth to potty nappy.  It is very similar to the Motherease onesize but the multifit closes with velcro.  It will fit babies from around 8 lb - 35 lb.  It is designed to fold down at the front with poppers for when your baby is smaller and then as they get bigger you let these out.  The velcro tabs mean that you can get a wide range of different fittings.  The legs are elasticated which also ensures a good fit.

This is a good choice of nappy for birth to potty, an economical option as you just need to buy the one size and they are fairly quick to dry.

These nappies are available in white only.  You will also need some waterproof wraps to go over these nappies.  Either the motherease rikki wrap or the airflow wraps are a good choice with this nappy.  You will also need some liners to collect any solids

The Bumble is a great size 2 nappy but can also be used 'birth to potty' 

This nappy has a terry outer and a fleece inner with a booster that snaps into the inside of the pocket.  This means that it is very quick drying, whilst also giving very good absorbency and containment.  The fleece inner draws wetness away from the baby's skin and into the terry - keeping them nice and dry.

To use on a newborn baby: first remove the booster then fold the nappy into itself where you will find 2 poppers that will hold it in place.  Use a nappy nippa to pull any extra fabric together and get a nice snug fit.  This will give you a bulkier nappy than, say the Bimble or another sized nappy but if you want to buy just one set of nappies this is a great option.  Made in the UK and at a very reasonable price, the Bumble is a great choice.

Additional boosters can be added later on if you need to - just pop them into the pocket.  If you did start off using the Bimble these make a great booster inside the Bumble - just make sure that you put them in the pocket with the fleece side down.


Size 8 - 35 lbs

This is a new nappy from Tots Bots and we love it!  The Bamboo stretch is made from soft, knitted bamboo rather than traditional Bamboo terry.  In our tests this nappy is super stretchy and stays softer than Bamboo terry.  It is a sized nappy but the size 2 version can also be used as a birth to potty nappy.  (Keep in mind that if you use size 2 from birth, this will make it quite bulky until your baby is a few months old)

Both sizes popper down at the front so that size 1 can be used for very small babies of 5 lbs and will fit them up to around 18 lbs.  The size 2 nappy fits from 9 - 35 lbs.

Material:  80% viscose bamboo, 20% polyester.  The inner core is 100% polyester.  This nappy closes with aplix fastenings (velcro) which cross over at the tummy giving a good degree of flexibility to the sizing.

Both sizes come with a pop in bamboo booster which you can simply remove for quicker drying.  This nappy is not the quickest to dry, because it is bamboo (and is 60% more absorbent) it will take longer than a cotton nappy.  We've found that it takes a good day and a half on an airer in a warm room.  It can be tumble dried on a cool setting. 

These nappies are very absorbent and we've found them great for night time on our little one who is a pretty heavy wetter overnight!

You will need a seperate outer wrap for these nappies.  We would recommend either the Tots Bots Wraps or the Airflow wraps, or Rikki wraps.
