HOW TO USE REAL NAPPIES

Now that you've decided which nappies to use here are a few tips on how they work.

Terry nappies

With terry nappies you have to have them ready folded before placing under baby's bum. Put a liner on top of the terry, secure the nappy in place and fasten with a nappy nippa. Put a waterproof wrap on top of the Terry and ensure that no bits of nappy are sticking out under the wrap otherwise you will get moisture wicking out.

Prefolds

Fold the prefold, you might want to play around with different folds until you find the one best suited to your baby. Put a liner on top of the prefold, insert it inside the wrap and secure the wrap in place.

Sized nappies

Put a liner on top of the nappy and fasten the nappy in place. Put a waterproof wrap over the top, ensure that no bits of nappy are sticking out of the wrap.

Birth to potty nappies

Most birth to potty nappies fold down at the front to fit a smaller/newborn baby. Fold down the front and secure the nappy in place, use a waterproof wrap over the top (unless you are using an all in one nappy)

When your baby is bigger you no longer need to fold down the front of the nappy.

All in one nappies

These nappies do not require an outer wrap so you simply secure the whole nappy in place  using a liner as usual. If you are using a birth to potty all in one (like the Wonderoo) then you will need to fold down the front for a smaller baby.

Pocket nappies

These nappies have a pocket at the back which you stuff with something absorbent. This could be old Terry Squares, old towels, bamboo, cotton or hemp boosters. When you purchase pocket nappies they usually come with the absorbent material for stuffing into the pocket, some can be purchased without.

Before putting the nappy on simply stuff the pocket with the absobent layer. When washing, this material will fall out of the nappy and both pieces can then be dried separately, speeding up the drying time.
